Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) has handed over to Concern Khlibprom equipment for measuring the level of iodine in salt for bread
In the frame of the project of prevention of iodine deficiency in the population, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) presented PJSC Concern Khlibprom equipment for measuring the level of iodine in salt, which is part of the bread.
Representative of GAIN Irina Safronova said that in Ukraine there are no government programs to prevent iodine deficiency. Instead, the international community knows many successful government programs to combat it, based on the use of iodized salt. This is the history of such countries as Switzerland, Denmark, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands. But while the legislative initiatives in this country remains under consideration of the competent authority, evetyone can take care of the family by using iodized salt and foods containing it.
"I want to thank our project partners for their support of the joint program, – commented Yuri Rogovyy, Operational Director of PJSC Concern Khlibprom. – We have been cooperating since 2011. Since that time Khlibprom does not only produce bread with iodised salt in Lviv and Vinnytya region, but also conducts awareness campaign. Together we produced and now distributs leaflets and posters informing about threats of iodine deficiency, the required rate of consumption of this element and debunk myths about iodized salt in our diet. As a result the bakeries of other regions taken up our nitiatives, which is also the progress of this movement. It is important to spread this practice in all areas besause under the conditions of iodine deficiency is 70% of the population"
As Yuri Rogovyy has mentioned, the equipment, which received the company will provide such level of control of iodized salt as it is represented in the institutions of Ministry of Health. There are experts and laboratory conditions at plants to realize this task. So the company will not only receive the quality certificates from the suppliers of these products, but held its own thorough examining.
At present Concern Hlibprom produces such types of bread with adding iodized salt - "Zvychaynyi", "Sofiyivskyi", "Kurortnyi", "Karpatskyi osoblyvyi" Khlibna Khata Trade Mark, "Artemivskiy" and "Pyatnychanskyi" Vinnytsyakhlib Trade Mark. The company also received conclusions of the safety of products fortified with iodine at the Institute of Ecological Hygiene and Toxicology named after L. I. Medved.
